Missing a Tooth? Here Are Your Options:
If you’ve lost a tooth, you’re certainly not alone – and the good news is, there are several reliable ways to restore your smile.
As a dentist, I’m often asked, “What’s the best way to replace a missing tooth?” The answer depends on a few factors like budget, neighbouring teeth, and your personal preferences.

Let’s walk through the main options, from the most affordable to the more advanced:
1. Dentures – Tried and True
Dentures are the most cost-effective way to replace missing teeth and have been used for centuries (fun fact: even George Washington wore them!).
Modern dentures are much more comfortable and natural-looking than they used to be, and they come in three common types:
- Acrylic – simple and economical
- Valplast – flexible and metal-free
- Chrome – strong, lightweight, and durable
Each has its pros and cons, and we can help you choose what’s best for your needs.

2. Dental Bridges – A Solid Middle Ground
If the teeth on either side of your gap are healthy but may need crowns anyway, a dental bridge might be the ideal solution. A bridge anchors a false tooth to the neighbouring teeth, restoring both function and appearance.
The advantage? You can fix three teeth in one go.
The downside? If one of the supporting teeth fails, the entire bridge may need to be replaced.
3. Dental Implants – The Premium Option
Dental implants are often considered the gold standard for replacing missing teeth. They’re strong, long-lasting, and don’t impact the teeth around them – ideal when you want a solution that feels and functions like a natural tooth.
Implants can also be used to support full upper or lower dentures.
While they are the most expensive option, they’re also the most independent and often the most durable.
